CHARLES BORTON Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch from Jun. 20 to Jun. 21, 2010.
BORTON, Charles Manuel "Honey," died peacefully on June 19, 2010. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Betty Meyers Borton; his sister, Vivian Sherman of California; daughters, Marci Linas (Steve) and Laura Lewis (Ben); and grandchildren, Alison and Stephanie Linas, and Rachel and Michael Lewis. A lifelong resident of Richmond, Charlie graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill after serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII. After college, he returned to Richmond and subsequently founded Richmond Barrel & Box Company. He served on the Board of the National Barrel and Drum Association for many years, and was honored as the industry's "Man of the Year" in 1997. Charlie was fondly known as the "Mayor of Shockoe Slip." He loved to golf at Jefferson-Lakeside Country Club and to volunteer at the weekly bingo game at Temple Beth-El. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Monday at Bliley's, 8510 Staples Mill Rd. Interment to follow at Beth-El Cemetery at Forest Lawn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Temple Beth-El or a charity of your choice.
