GRETES, Eleanor Yvonne Sherron Millikin, poet, white water rafter, retired IRS revenue agent and beloved wife of George C. Gretes, died on January 10, 2011 after a courageous struggle with complications from a disease (Multiple System Atrophy) for which there is no treatment or current cure. She was preceded in death by her mother, Alma Burgess McDaniel, and father, Victor B. Sherron, both born in Durham, N.C.; her husband of 33 years, Richmond Police Captain Robert T. Millikin Jr.; and many uncles and aunts. In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children, one-son-in law, and one daughter-in-law, Robert T. and Sheri Millikin, III, Yvonne M. Baltz, Kathleen M. and Glenn Muse and Lara S. Millikin, all of Hanover County; two brothers, V. Bryant Sherron Jr. of Mechanicsville and James Lee and Sherrell Sherron of Powhatan; three stepdaughters, Heather G. and David Duncan, Kimberly G. and Stu Laird, and Sandra G. and Matthew Whitehead; stepmother, Mary Mann Sherron of Velrico, Fla.; mother-in-law, Cia Gretes of Norfolk, Va.; brother-in-law, Dr. John and Rose Gretes of Newport News, Va.; sisters-in-law, Leigh and Sava Comsudis of Norfolk, Va. and Marilyn M. Gilbert of Kailua, Hawaii; her 10 grandchildren, Louis and Katie Baltz, James and Christopher Dobbins, Madeline and Samuel Muse and Shelby Millikin, all of Hanover County, Benjamin Duncan, Erica Brawand and Megan Brawand, all of Chester, Va.; four nieces and a nephew; and a loving church family. Eleanor graduated from "the old" John Marshall High School in 1956 and the University of Richmond, summa cum laude, in 2004 and was past matron of Areme Chapter #17 OES. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Mechanicsville United Methodist Church, 7356 Atlee Road, Mechanicsville, Va. 23111, where she has been a member for over 50 years. Her license plate of many years expressed her belief for living and read "PLA HARD." The family will receive friends Thursday from 2 to 4 and 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home 8014 Lee-Davis Road. Funeral services will be held Friday 11 a.m. at Mechanicsville United Methodist Church with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

January 13, 2011

Rob, Sheri & Shebly.

You are all in my thoughts and Prayers.

Safely Home

I am home in Heaven, dear ones;
Oh, so happy and so bright!
There is perfect joy and beauty
In this everlasting light.

All the pain and suffering is over
Every restless tossing passed;
I am now at peace forever,
Safely home in Heaven at last.

Did you wonder I so calmly
Trod the valley of the shade?
Oh! but Jesus' love illumined
Every dark and fearful glade.

And he came Himself to meet me
In that way so hard to tread
And with Jesus' arm to lean on
Could I have one doubt or dread?

Then you must not grieve so sorely,
For I love you dearly still:
Try to look beyond earth's shadows,
Pray to trust our Father's will.

There is still work waiting for you,
So you must not idly stand;
Do it now, while life remaineth-
You shall rest in Jesus' land.

When that work is completed,
He will gently call you home;
Oh, the rapture of that meeting,
Oh, the joy to see you come!
