Hansford DuVal Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Nov. 18, 2010.
DuVAL, Hansford Taliaferro, 76 years old, died peacefully in his home on November 17, 2010 after a two-and-a-half-year courageous battle with cancer. He was the son of the late John Tabb and Mollie Taliaferro DuVal of Gloucester, Va. An avid outdoorsman with a passion for fly fishing and hunting, he fished with great pioneers of the salt water fly fishing sport, such as the legend Joe Brooks. He attended and won numerous sport fishing tournaments throughout Florida, Bahamas and South America. He is survived by his loving children and their families, son, John T. DuVal II of Atlanta, Ga., and wife, Erin Green; son, Thomas A. DuVal of Leesburg, Va., and wife, Lori DuVal; son, Joseph B. DuVal of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and wife, Veronica DuVal; daughter, Mollie F. Rhodes of West Palm Beach, Fla., and husband, Adam Rhodes; and daughter, Julia K. DuVal of Delray Beach, Fla.; and 10 grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held at 2204 Monument Avenue, Richmond, Va. 23220, on Sunday, November 21, from 2 to 5 p.m. Memorial contributions in his honor can be made to the American Cancer Society at www.americancancersociety.com.

I knew him as Terry at AMA. He was a couple of years ahead of me. As an older cadet he had the option of making my life miserable. But he always treated me with respect and kindness. Terry was a warm, friendly fellow, a heads-up gentleman and popular with everyone. AMA '54
