Mary Marth Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch from May 30 to May 31, 2010.
MARTH, Mary Alice, departed this life on May 28, 2010 at Lakewood Manor on Lauderdale Drive in Richmond. Mrs. Marth was born on January 8, 1923 in Stronghurst, Illinois to William and Lillian Prescott. After graduation from Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois, she married Paul Marth who preceded in her death following a 59-year marriage. She was an active member of Derbyshire Baptist Church and Agape Sunday School Class, and enjoyed volunteer work at Lakewood Monor. She was also a very loyal fan of the Washington Redskins, Wake Forest Demon Deacons, and University of Richmond Spiders. Survivors include two sons, Paul Marth and wife, Phyllis, of Greensboro, North Carolina and Brian Marth and wife, Pam, of Richmond, Virginia. In addition, she had two grandchildren, David Marth and wife, Allison, of Pleasant Garden, North Carolina and Kristi Marth of Greensboro, North Carolina. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road, where the family will receive friends one hour after the service. Interment 2 p.m. Tuesday at Monticello Memorial Gardens in Charlottesville, Va. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, which was one of Mrs. Marth's favorite charities. Special thanks to the staff at Lakewood Manor and Agape Sunday School Class for their kind and compassionate care provided to Mrs. Marth during her illness.

Wow Brian & Paul so sorry for your loss. Your parents were very influential in guiding my life as a young person on a christian path. I saw your mom at Clarendon's 100th anniversary, she looked great. God be with your families during this difficult time.

Brian, so sorry to learn of your mother's passing as she sounded like a wonderful person. She was a year younger then my mother who now faces a struggle with staying in her home or going to a nursing home. I hope fond memories of her and your father sustain you and your family for many years to come.

May God Bless,

Mary Alice & Paul Marth were two of the best Christians I have ever known. She was a good friend to every one that had the pleasure of knowing her. My sympathy goes out to Paul and Brian. Bernice Anglin
