BLANTON, Nell Clay, 93, of Amelia, widow of Reuben Lee Blanton, died July 15, 2010. She was the daughter of the late Ruth Alley and Everette C. Clay. She was born in Richmond, but spent most of her life in Amelia County. Mrs. Blanton graduated from the Blackstone College for Girls in 1937. She was the oldest member of the Tabernacle United Methodist Church in Amelia, where she served for many years as the Communion Steward, a member of the Parsonage Committee, the Administrative Board and a Sunday School teacher. She is survived by her son, Reuben L. Blanton Jr. of Amelia; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Nell Tatum (Rev. Gene C.) of Amelia, Betty B. Wood (H.B.) of Woodville, Va.; one grandson, Henry B. Wood III (Angela); and two great- grandchildren, Julia and Henry Wood of Woodville, Va. The family will receive friends Saturday, July 17, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Tabernacle United Methodist Church, Highway 153, and at other times at the Tatum residence. Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 18, at 3 p.m. in the church. The service will be conducted by her son-in-law, Rev. Gene C. Tatum, and the Rev. T. Todd Smith. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be directed to the Virginia United Methodist Assembly Center, 707 Fourth Street, Blackstone, Va. 23824. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home. The family would like to express their profound gratitude and appreciation to the staff of the Dunlop House for the excellent care and love shown to Mrs. Blanton during the past five years.
