In late October of 2007, at POE'S PUB, Ozell played "AMAZING GRACE" on his harmonica, while Willie and Sonny sang a cappella above and below his melody. His was not the third melody, No! He was first, with The Gold School Apostles second, and third behind him.

OZELL, OZELL!
What SHALL we do now?
The shepherd is gone,
And sheep are scattered...

Rest ye now, for a while.

It was such a pleasure to meet Ozell at Poe's Pub on Open Mike Night and get to hear his heart through his harmonica. He was a wonderfully kind person and a pleasure to know. He will be sorely missed. My heartfelt condolences go out to all his family and friends. We were all blessed to have known him, and the heavens are now blessed with his presence.

Ozell and I went together for 5 years off and on. He was a good person and we had been meeting at the Windmill restaurant and talking about getting back together. He will be in my memories forever. I have flowers in my yard from his dads place. I will always pray for him and I know he has a special place in heaven.

To the Ard Familyl - Thank you for sharing this special person with so many of us at Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish in Richmond, VA. Ozell performed the "Welcoming" ministry with such a touch of hospitality. We know he has entered eternal life and we keep each of you in our thoughts and prayers. Sincerely,

I was saddened to hear of Ozell's passing away. My prayers go out to the family. I had witnessed him on many occasions giving of himself his gift of music and the melodies from his harmonicas. He brightened the spirits of many seniors as he volunteered his time to entertain in nursing homes, I was fortunate to play with him on a few occasions, He's moving to the next life now, God bless.

Ozell was a person that I liked to be around when we played music at local events. He was a gentleman, yet down to earth... a very natural and relaxed person. His musical abilities and sensitivity to melody were always a pleasure to enjoy.

And I admired his having served in the Navy. I could tell he took pride in it, and rightly so.

I am proud to have met and known Ozell. His care in the hands of our heavenly father is assured. And I am certain that the generous spirit and the kind disposition of Ozell will guarantee that he will '... dwell in the house of the Lord forever'.

We are sorry to hear of your loss. Ozell was a pallbearer at my Dad's funeral last year. They were in the Navy together. He had seen my Dad's name in the paper and remembered him because of his unusal name. He was named after FDR. God Bless your whole family. I know you all will miss him especially his dad. Becka & I were truly saddened to hear of Ozell's passing. Our condolences to his family and loved ones. He was a great guy, a good friend, a talented musician...and made some of the best potato salad I've ever had. We'll miss him a lot. He truly enjoyed making others happy with his music. May he rest in peace in a place where there are no sour notes and lots of applause. "Streak"

Ozell Ard was a distinct and unusual performer on Richmond's open mike circuit. There are not many chromatic harmonica players among us. His selections ranged over decades. He will be missed.
