RUBY ATKINS

ATKINS, Ruby P., 89, formerly of Cullen, Va., passed away January 6, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Carter Atkins. She is survived by two sons, Roger J. Atkins Sr. and Donald J. Atkins Sr. and his wife, Lynn; three granddaughters, Lisa Zimmerman and her husband, Bill, Beth Atkins and Kimberly McComb and her husband, John; two grandsons, Donald J. Atkins Jr. and Roger J. Atkins Jr. and his wife, Tammy; and 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Grace Mohr; two brothers, Courtney M. Parsons and his wife, Lena and Fred Parsons. The family thanks Diane Harris, her caregiver of the past 10 years, for her devoted care and love. Ms. Atkins obtained a master's degree in education from Longwood University and committed her entire professional career to public education in Appomattox and Charlotte Counties. She retired as principal at Charlotte Elementary in Charlotte Courthouse. She has lived in Midlothian, Va., near her family for the past 16 years. The family will receive friends at 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 10, 2011 at Oakview Presbyterian Church near Cullen. Funeral services will follow at 2:30 p.m., with burial in the Oakview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Oakview Cemetery Fund in her memory. The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, Va., is in charge of the arrangements.
