Stevens Jones

JONES, Stevens Meredith died Thursday, December 31, 2009. He was born August 27, 1932 in Richmond to Dorothea A. and Leonard A. Jones, and is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sarah Hastings Jones. He is also survived by three children, Stevens M. Jones Jr., Sarah Jane Wyatt (Russell) and Scott Hastings Jones (Juli); and eight grandchildren, Emily, Harrison and Caroline Jones, Benjamin and Andrew Wyatt and Olivia, Spencer and Carter Jones. He was a 1955 graduate of the University of Virginia School of Architecture, where he was a member of Chi Phi and Alpha Rho Chi, and he attended graduate school at the University of Richmond and Virginia Commonwealth University. After serving in the U.S. Army Combat Engineers, he returned to Richmond and later became a partner in the firms Marcellus Wright and Partners and Jones and Strange-Boston. He won at least two national architectural design awards, one at Ft. Meade, Md. and another for Langley AFB Hospital. He was a member of Prison Fellowship and served for over 20 years at Goochland and Sussex I Prisons. Steve loved the Lord with every fiber of his being. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 6, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 8787 River Rd., Richmond, Va. 23229. Interment will be private.
