Willie Maxey Obituary

MAXEY, Willie M., 89, of Powhatan, widow of F. Roland Maxey, died April 21, 2010. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Margaret Murphy (Ray) of Powhatan; one sister, Mary C. Vandiver of Amelia; granddaughter, Dora Douglas; two great- grandchildren, Samantha and Sarah; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Thursday (today) from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy. (Rte. 60), Powhatan. A memorial service will be held April 28, Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Powhatan United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Powhatan United Methodist Church.

I will never forget the cherished moments I spent with this powerful yet jovial woman. She always displayed such grace in my presence and held those she cherished so close to her heart. I'm proud that she called me her friend and always blew me a kiss goodbye. I now blow her one back....

Madison and I will be traveling to Powhatan for the funeral, Willie was a loving aunt to Madison and she welcomed me into the family with open arms. We will miss her telephone calls and quick wit.
