I've just been reading through old correspondence from Michael Hitzig, a dear friend of my mother, and in a letter of 1982 he refers to Willy having had a serious heart attack. I remembered meeting him through Michael in the early '80s, and the still-vivid impression he made on me as a remarkable, unique, astonishingly charming and accomplished man. On impulse, I googled him, and found this obituary... and recalled how proud he was of his exceptional children. It brought back a sweet memory, and I wanted to belatedly join in expressing my condolences and add an extra celebration of a wonderful man.

I missed our phone calls during Roland-Garros this year. It's just not fun to watch anymore.
I know what you're saying ... "Bon courage!"
I'm trying!

Dear Roma,
Thank you for your letter relating the sad news of your father's death. Kaye and I offer our condolences and sympathy to you and your sisters on this painful occasion.
We have known Willy since he joined the ISEL Group many years ago and have stayed in touch ever since. Willy had a discerning sense of humour, was a patient teacher in accounting intricacies throughout our relationship and a great friend.
We had many memorable occasions together at ISEL conferences, and later as a colleague when we moved to New York. We shall miss his presence but remember him fondly in our prayers,
Sincerely,
Kaye and Declan O'Sullivan

I met Willy when he was young and skinny and courting my cousin Josephine Di Ramio. He was in love and it was mutual. He was courtly and funny at the same time and he had a wonderful giggle. He was thoughtful and generous, a wonderful host in his home. I will always remember him that way, a good family man. Eleanor Mackay

Dear Nadia and Family,
Your father was a fascinating and extraordinary man. He was larger than life and so full of joie de vivre. He always had a kind word for everyone and enjoyed being around people of all background and races.
I am so glad to have cross path with Willy, although I only met your father and his wonderful family a short time ago.
I am very saddened at the passing of such a great man.
My deepest sympathy,
Francoise Broeder
