Boyle
Joseph A. Boyle, 84, husband, father and grandparent, of Second Street, Coaldale, died Tuesday, April 29, in the St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale. He was the husband of Julia A. (Hutta) Boyle. They were married for 63 years.
He worked for the Bethlehem Steel Corporation and then for the former Bundy Tubing Company, Hometown, until its closing.
He retired from the Schuylkill County Housing Authority, having worked at the Ridge Terrace Apartments in Coaldale and the Tamaqua High Rise. Born in Coaldale, he was a son of the late Donald and Grace (O'Gorman) Boyle. He was an active member of the former St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Coaldale, where he was an usher and collector. After the diocesan consolidation of churches, he became a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Tamaqua.A 1947 graduate of the former St. Mary High School, Coaldale, he served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
While raising his family, he coached in the former Coaldale Little League and was active in the Boy Scouts.
Boyle was a Third Degree Knight of the Father Henry Baker Council, Knights of Columbus, and member of the Coaldale American Legion Post.
An avid sports fan, he enjoyed watching Notre Dame, the Phillies and Eagles.
The deceased was a craftsman. He enjoyed reading autobiographies and keeping up on world events.
He was proud of his 50-year perfect voting record and his 50-year membership in the Coaldale Fire Company.
Survived in addition to his widow are two daughters, Susan M., wife of Mike Lopata of Nesquehoning, and Mary K., wife of Frank Horvath of Summit Hill; two sons, Joseph D., and his wife, Mary, of Bethlehem, and Thomas P., and his wife, Jane, of Tamaqua; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tara Mirabella; two sisters, Grace Ann Boyle and Mary Dorrian; and a brother, Donald Jr.
Service: Mass of Christian Burial 1 p.m. Friday, May 2, SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Tamaqua, with the Rev. William Linkchorst officiating. Interment, St. Jerome Cemetery, Tamaqua. Call 6-8 p.m. Thursday and 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Friday, E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 655 E. Broad St., Tamaqua. Contributions in his name may be made to the Coaldale Vol. Fire Dept., 121 W. High St., Coaldale, Pa. 18218, or the St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital Pulmonary Department, 360 W.
