Gosh, he was my doctor for years. I saw him well into my 20's. I once asked his nurse how old I had to be that he wouldn't treat me. She replied 3 years younger than Dr. Welsh. He was a character and I always left chuckling about something he said. He saved my brothers life at the ER at St. Mary's Hospital one night and after that my parents drove from our family ranch near Sierra Vista to Tucson because they trusted him so much. He never let us down and we got the best care.

Dr. Welsh passed away 34 days after giving me an FAA physical. My first FAA from him was in 1989. His practicing and giving FAA physicals literally until the day he died speaks volumes.

I'm so sad to just learn of this wonderful man's passing. He was my doctor in the 1960's. He was a brilliant doctor and compassionate friend to his little patients. He was later the doctor to my five children until they grew up. The world has lost a great man.

John Welsh found his patients fascinating and when during an aviation physical he learned about the Flying Samaratans, he mentioned that if we needed any medical equipment or supplies he would like to donate. Soon after his passing, I received a call and soon after, Dr. Welsh's office provided many much needed supplies that are now helping our group to provide better medical and dental services to underserved patients in Mexico's Baja penninsula. The Flying Samaritans Arizona thank you Dr. Welsh and family.

What a great AME and fellow pilot! I actually looked forward to my Class 1 physical every six months. My sincere condolences to his wife and family, sorry we never had a chance to meet. A kind and caring physician who had a grasp of the bigger picture. I'll miss seeing you and Sandy twice a year.

Dear Barbara and Family,
Sorry to hear of Dr Welsh's passing. We met John at TMC when he came to visit our new born daughter August 1, 1964. As young parents we were relieved to see we had a fine doctor. On Thanksgiving morning that same year John met us at his office on Wetmore Road to check out our sick daughter before we headed to Yuma for a family Thanksgiving.
Being young public school teachers John would always spend time discussing education issues with us while the waiting room grew antsy.
Later John became a school board member in Amphi in the 1970's because he had so much free time.
He was one of the good guys!
Blessings,

Dr. Welsh was my daughter Amy's pediatrician. She is now in her 40's so it has been years since we've seen him. But, he was a wonderful pedatrician and we still remember him fondly.

Dr Welsh was my aeromedical examiner for years. Professional, dedicated and yet as friendly as could be. He was intensely interested in keeping his pilots flying. A wonderful man.

We are very sorry for the loss of this terrific man and physician. Not only was her the pediatrician of the Dalton boys, he was also the pediatrician of their children. If it weren't for him detecting a ruptured appendix, we could have lost our daughter at 6 years (now 36). Not only was he a great doctor, he was a great friend. He will truly be missed, but still loved tremendously.

As someone else already said, we thought he would live forever. He was one of the greatest doctors our family has ever known. He was my two sons Pediatrician from the time they were born into the time they were adults. Dr. Welsh brought so much comfort as a young mother with my first son at his Wetmore office always telling me everything would be ok as well as with my youngest son who seemed to be at his office at least twice a month. My sons never had a fear when going to see him which was such a relief. My sons 29 & 39 were deeply saddened when they heard of his passing. There are so many good stories to tell about him and his wonderful staff, especially Lou Ann. Our sincerest condolences and prayers to his family.

Our sincere condolences to The Welsh Family. A great big "Thank You" to a wonderful & understanding person I had the pleasure of working with for 12 years and having him as my family pediatrician for my three children. We will never forget our great "Dr.Welsh"!

I married into Dr Welsh's practice as my husband had been his patient since he went to him for sports physicals as a student at CDO. (1970) He took care of our kids and continued to care for us past middle age. It was perfect since we were elementary teachers and usually need to be treated for the same illnesses as the kids! When I would come in I would always say that I wanted to make sure that I wasn't passing whatever I had on to my students and he would reply, "Why? They're the ones that gave it to you!" So funny!!! He was so knowledgeable and had the answer for any problem that ailed us. I loved having him as our doctor and was so sad when he retired. My husband also told me that Dr Welsh served Amphi as a school board member back in the 60's or 70's.

Dr. Walsh was our son's DR. from the time they were born and many years later. They are now late 30's and early 40's and we all have many fond memories of him. He was a super human being and helped shape infants, children, teens and adults into great people. A shining example of himself is what they were shown. He made them well and also better people. Thank you to his family for sharing him with a lot of us.

We will never forget this loving gentleman, doctor and comforter when needed. Our children loved him and never minded going to "the doctor..". Always had a genuine smile for patients and we came away feeling better. My husband got his FAA physicals and enjoyed their conversations about flying. It has been many years since we "outgrew" his services but we will Always remember him!!!!

Dr. Welsh was the best!! He didn't sugar coat a darn thing and told it like it was. I remember one time the school called and said my son cut his knee really bad, so I called the office, doc said bring him in, I called the school and said he was going to go to his pediatrician, the school nurse said "oh no, he needs more than a pediatrician" called doc back, "just bring him in here to the office" I had a daycare at the time so my brother in law took him in. Doc stitched him up and sent him on his way. I have grandkids now and sure do miss Dr. Welsh

Dr. Welsh will ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart and the hearts of my family members. He was my doctor, and often counselor, from middle school on. He helped me get through high school, being a young wife, and becoming a mother. He went on to take care of my three children from birth. He always knew how to comfort both emotionally and medically. We loved to hear wonderful stories of his world travels, from river voyages to spotting Santa Claus riding horseback down the beach. He taught my children and I how to face lifes struggles through stories of his life growing up and personal experiences. He was always so kind and such an hilarious person to be around! No one ever dreded going to the doctor. He helped me through the WORST moments of my life and always gave me faith that I would survive it and for that, I will forever be grateful. His kindness and generosity is also responsible for the Welsh Little Theatre at CDO high school which also holds a special place in many peoples hearts. I will miss his ties, occasional suspenders, forecastig what my kids would do months before they did it, telling me not to trust my then 2-yr-old, encouraging me to spoil my newborn, the sweet terms he'd use to refer to his wife, the list goes on....I feel like I've lost a mentor, a friend, a grandpa - and I'd wager to guess there are many more who feel the same. God bless Dr. Welsh. My prayers are with his wife and family.

"Doc" was my Flight Surgeon for many years. We would swap flying stories at every visit. He was forever trying to sell his Aircraft to me. During an office visit once, it turned out that I had lived close by in the 50's-60's on Ko Vaya as a young lad.
Great guy, will be missed by the Aviation community.

I loved this man, he took care of me and my children. When my youngest son was born premature he came and sat with me and cried. His heart was the biggest and best part of him. A brilliant man and a great sense of humor. The light is a little dimmer in this world without him.

Dr. Welsh was our pediatrician for the many years we lived in the Flowing Wells area. I had six children and he remarked one time that he saw more of me than he did his wife. He even sewed up my finger after a dishwashing accident at church. He has touched many lives.

Dear Dr Welsh was so instrumental in the lives of my family. He cared for my children from a young age and couldn't let them go until well into their adulthood. He just adapted "young adults" into his practice. He attended graduations, weddings and funerals. He was a wonderful "crazy" man. No doubt his loving care will still be looking out for them. Blessings, peace and love to his family.

Dr. Welsh was a wonderful pediatrician that only cared for my child but cared for me. He knew how to help new mothers just as much as the children. He rescued me when my baby was allergic to regular formula. I will never forget that day. He truly cared for the well being of the whole family.
