Ernestine, who had been in declining health for over the last few years with emphysema, died Sunday, October 17, 2010 from pneumonia at Simi Valley Adventist Hospital at the age of 77.
Ernestine was born on February 26, 1933 to Konrad and Juliane Pikal at Alt Petrein, Znaim Czechoslovakia. Ernestine had two sisters Grete Margret Kruger, Steffi Walter and brother Hansi Pikal. Ernestine married Bert Edward Failing in the 50's and had three sons. They lived in the United States and Germany during Mr. Failings 20 years in the Army. He retired in the early 70's in Simi Valley.
Ernestine worked on the assembly line at the Van Nuys GM Plant, where she retired after 20 years of dedicated service. Ernestine has been a resident of Simi Valley for over 40 years.
Ernestine is survived by three sons Albert Konrad Failing along with wife Alice (Sue), of Simi Valley, Edward Glenn Failing, of Simi Valley, John Raymond Failing, of Simi Valley and her grandsons Glenn Richard Failing, David Kejonen and long time friend Clay Wagner. Ernestine was preceded in death by her loving husband Bert Edward Failing on October 24 1981.
Viewing hours at Reardon Simi Valley Funeral Home are from 4-8p.m. Tuesday October 26, 2010 and Wednesday, October 27, 2010 from 10-11a.m. followed by graveside service at Oakwood Memorial Park in Chatsworth. I will miss Ernestine a lot. I visited her once a week delivering Meals On Wheels and she was always so cheerful and worried about me and my family. Truly a lovely person. She sure loved to dance and I'm sure she's doing it now.
