Marjorie Battle Obituary

Marjorie R. Battle passed away peacefully on Oct. 7, 2010 at 89 years young.

She was born to Robert Marx Baeny and Flora Alzada (Randall) on Aug. 30, 1921 and was raised in Rhode Island. She had a younger sister, Roberta, who preceded her in death.

Marjorie was a tomboy who hated wearing a dress and loved the summers she spent at Naraganset Bay. After graduation, she attended business school and then married Donald Joseph Battle in 1945. Her children included Robert, married to Renee Davey, Donald Jr. (deceased) and Marie, and her grandchildren, Julianne, Alyda and Mika.

The family moved west to Southern California in 1955 and settled in the San Fernando Valley. Marjorie worked for Safeco Insurance Company from 1967 until her retirement in Seattle in 1982. She was active in her church, enjoyed stamp collecting, played pickelball religiously, participated in the Senior Olympics, volunteered at the senior centers and Washington University and was a world-wide traveler. In 1992 she returned to Northridge and then moved to Ventura in 1994.

Marjorie was a loving and nurturing presence in her granddaughter's lives; walking with them to school, participating in school events, volunteering in the school library and reading to children. She attended St. Paul's Episcopalian Church regularly, swam at the YMCA, took water aerobics and loved flowers and enjoyed puttering in the garden. Marjorie was an avid reader who always had a book nearby. She was a familiar face in the neighborhood. We will miss her sweet smile and positive outlook.

A celebration of her life will be held at the family home on Gale Way from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 17. All who knew her are welcome.

Dear Marie and family,

Marge was a special and dear friend of mine. We had such good and fun times together when she lived in Seattle.
I always admired her athletic abilities and she had more stamina than 3 other people put together.
I will miss her very much and it is hard to imagine her not being there. I know that she is with us in spirit and we can take comfort in that.
Love to all,

Louise Kiley

One of our many wonderful Christmas' at your home! I do miss the days!

Dearest Marie,
I was very sorry to hear of Marjorie's passing, and regret very much that I will be unable to attend the celebration of her life. Marjorie was an AMAZING and admirable woman, and although I've not necessarily known how to express it, I feel fortunate to have known her, and even more still - though no less thanks to her - to have been a member of the Battle family. I hope that in spite of your loss the small joys will shine through as though gifts from Marjorie, in spirit, and I, for my part, have dedicated one of my own puttering-about-the-garden plants to her memory, and will water and care for it with her twinkling eyes and sunny smile in mind.
Much Love.

Our thoughts are with you and we hope, with time, you will find peace and enjoyment in life, as your mother did. She is a shining example of life well lived. You are her shining stars.
