Sally Ann (Brawley) Srock Patterson, 70, a former resident of Oxnard, died on Aug. 17, 2010 of metastatic cervical cancer at the home of her daughter Tammye in San Diego.

Sally was born in West Plains, Mo., on Dec. 30, 1939, the eldest of three children born to Wright Simpson and Mary Ann (Ennis) Brawley of Eminence, Mo. She moved to Oxnard in March of 1950 where she graduated from Oxnard High School in 1957. Later that year, Sally married Larry Srock of Ramey, Pa.

Although it ended in 1970, this marriage produced five children. Sally remarried in February 1975 to Robert "Bob" W. Patterson in Oxnard, and moved to San Diego County in 1976. Sally earned a Bachelors of Arts degree in Counseling from National University in 1987 and a Masters of Arts degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from Alliant University in 1992. Sally retired in June 2009 after teaching and volunteering as a TESOL/ ESL professor and elementary school teacher for 30 years at various community colleges, churches, and Christian missions in LA/San Diego Counties.

Prior to entering the teaching profession, she was a civil servant/clerk typist working in Ventura/San Diego Counties. She had a passion for teaching as well as sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Sally is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Robert "Bob" Patterson of San Diego; four daughters, one son, two stepchildren: Wendy Wright of Bath, ME; Tammye (John) Martin of San Diego; Tracy Srock of North Hollywood; Kelly (Brent) Bonenfant of Mt. Sally was preceded in death by her brother, David Brawley Panaiff, and her parents.

A celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9, at Pathways Community Church, 9626 Carlton Hills Blvd., Santee, CA 92071. Interment will be at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego. In lieu of flowers/gifts, please donate in Sally's memory to: Tecate Mission, Attn. Willa Edmonds, P.O. Box 1000, Tecate, CA 91980.

Marla Magdaleno

October 3, 2010

Marla lived at The Srock Patterson home for a time when the children were young, as a sitter. She has many happy rememberances of the family and of Sally and Bob and has asked that I convey her loving thoughts to all the family.

Marla now lives in an assisted living home in the Reseda area of Los Angeles. She is in a wheelchair now, but still keeps alert and interested. She is the same age as Sally.
