Steven Kupetz Obituary

Steven Kupetz was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 4, 1960. He passed away on September 19, 2010. He was 50 years old.

In May 1963 he moved to Anchorage, Alaska. His father Jack was to be stationed in Alaska. His mother Frances and younger sister Debra and his grandmother Anna spent three years in Alaska. They were there when the Good Friday earthquake hit. It was the largest earthquake in the Northern Hemisphere on record 9.2 magnitudes.

When his father was transferred to Colorado Springs, Colorado that's when his youngest sister Barbra was born. In 1967 his father retired after 23 years in service, he moved to Simi Valley. Steve attended Sycamore Elementary School, Sequoia Junior High and Simi High, and graduated in 1978. When he was 18 years old he was assistant manager of Larwin Twin Theatre in Simi.

Steve was president of the Prometheans Club while in his last year of high school. He also worked in several businesses such as Crown Books and Best Record Store. He went to Moorpark College; he was a film buff as well as a history buff. He also attended U.C.L.A. Graphics Art Classes. He volunteered at friends of the library for eight years and enjoyed every minute of it. He went to Moorpark College and graduated with a degree in English, and a degree in Cinema.

He helped everyone he could, and was well liked by everyone young and old. He leaves behind many loyal and dear friends who were a great part of his life. The world was a better place for having him in it, and he will be truly missed by all. Steve was a wealth of knowledge and had he ever been on Jeopardy he would have been the biggest winner ever!

Funeral services were held for family and friends a few weeks ago. A great mind has been lost forever. He was funny and witty and enjoyed being with people.

His father Jack and grandmother Anna preceded him in death.

He is survived by his mother, Frances; sisters Debra Gallant and Barbra Kupetz; brother-in-law Rande Gallant and his nephew Jackson Gallant.

My thoughts and Prayers are with your family. It was a pleasure working with you at E.R.S. I remember you were always more than willing to help others in any way that you could. You will never be forgotten.

I had the pleasure of working with Steve for many years at Crown Books. I started there at 16 (in the early '80's) and loved every minute of working there. Steve was a great guy. I am so sad to hear of his passing. Sending lots of love, thoughts and prayers to his family.
