Just thought of my old friend Murray and very sorry to hear of his passing. I audited his Small Business Program for many years and enjoyed his company at many Small Business events.I asked him to be a guest speaker often and he always was someone I could totally count on. He called me "His Auditor" ,but he was a friend. I, know how his family must miss him he was a one of the best. I have a thousand memories if him all good. Rest in, peace Murray we will neet again. I was the Assistant Director of Small Business for DCMA Baltimore/Virginia for many years.

Well, well, my beautiful friend and fabulous mentor Murray. You came into my thoughts this morning, just as you do so many times. I decided to google your name in an effort to procure a new phone number for you and Lorraine to catch up as I have over the years since I left Virginia and moved back to my home state of illinois. instead of the Info I was seeking, up came an obit! I thought this cant be my Murray Schooner! but in looking further, their was your picture and I was left feeling empty and sad to know that the world had lost your wonderful smile and boundless energy to help anyone who needed you. you took me under your wing as a fledgling P.A. in our office in Fairfax, Va. and to my knowledge I was your first small business purchasing agent. what a great teacher you were! through the years when people would ask about my career, I always told them about you dear Murray and i the days when other male bosses werent ready to help women move up the corporate chain, you helped me to learn and go as far as I could possibly manage! What a blast our small group had together, I think we were only a crew of six or seven at that time, and Pat tried to keep us all in line! lol. well my dearest friend rest jn pease, and know that there is one gal in Peoria, illinois who will forever be in your debt. my love to you Lorraine and all his family who love and miss that classic Murray smlie. He was bigger than life!!!!

I had the pleasure of getting to know Murray & his family in recent years while he patiently taught us the federal business. His guidance, persistence, and mentoring were amazing; however the best part was clearly the friendship that has grown. I think about you often Murray. It is hard to believe you have gone to greener pastures for more than a year now. My wife Karen and I are always grateful that you invited us to your home and made us feel very welcome to the DC area during our stay there a couple of years ago.

You’ve been gone exactly one year today. The memory of this day last year remains so vivid, yet it feels like it has been an eternity without you. Although we have wonderful memories to cling to, it’s difficult to accept the idea that there will be no new memories to come. Life without Dad/Grandpa just isn’t the same. We love you, we miss you, and we remember you, on this day and every day.

Good bye Murray. Today was your send-off. I will miss, but never forget, your smile, warm spirit, open heart and enduring encouragement! When I interviewed for my current job, the owners mentioned that Murray Schooner was a consultant of theirs. I said ‘I know that man – I heard him speak at a small business conference 20 years before.’ The owners were divided on whether to pursue direct government business. Ironically, once I began working closely with Murray, their differences came to a head and the opposing partner left, leaving the door open for the company to achieve the vision that Murray had instilled in us. A lot good happened in the short time that I knew Mr. Murray. I know a lot more good will come still. I’ll forever be cognizant of his values and attitude in business and his loving family. Murray was a model human being – and all of you, are a model loving, serving family. I will keep his memory and yours close to my heart. He sent me a card when I was particularly blue and discouraged ‘Wishing you a song in your heart’. I wish you and yours a song in your heart – a Merry, Murray song!

I met Murray while singing in the bass section of the Men's Chorus at Heritage Hunt and it was not very long before I realized that he was a man of outstanding quality, dedication, and integrity. A small example of this was his willingness to proceed with his role as the "Island Man" in the 2009 Spring Concerts even though he was suffering intense hip pain at the time. Murray will be missed by both Lois and myself, and we are grateful for the opportunity of having known him.

Murray was my close friend and mentor. He taught me everything I know about assisting small business as I served as his understudy at Unisys for many years. He left impossibly big shoes to fill.
I remember he was fond of booming out to small business audiences at the hundreds of speaking engagements: I'll be your mentor as long as you do everything I say! His life was about helping others and bringing joy to everything he did. Everyone loved Murray, he was the life of any gathering. We traveled together across the country for many years helping small business and MEBE -WEBEs (as he liked to call the acronyms). He was truly an amazing man -- one of a kind. I cannot express in words how much he has meant to me. You will be missed my Friend! My prayers to Lorraine, Steve and family. Oh was he ever so proud of you Steve!! You are a lucky man to have had Murray as your father. Shalom.

I met Murray through the men's chorus here at Heritage Hunt and knew right away that we had a "gem" in the group. Murray had the gift of being able to sing an octave lower than the bass section so you always knew when he was at rehearsal. If there was any acting or character roles to be performed then Murray was your man.
He was a warm and caring individual and I will miss him greatly.
Thanks Murray for your contribution to the Men in Song and for living the life that you did.

Lorraine, Steve, Sue and Family: What a blessing to have known Murray! Always full of life and a warm hug and smile for all. Just seeing him made the world a brighter place. As I travel around the country and talk with small business owners who had the pleasure of knowing him, each has their own special story of Murray's kindness! He certainly left this world a better place. We miss him!!

Lorraine and family,
I was blessed to have met Murray more than 15 years ago while I was working in the small business office at Treasury. We could always count on Murray to help us support the small business community any time we asked. He was able to provide insight on what industry needed from small business providers. He was a wonderful man and someone we could always count on. I was thrilled that Murray made a special effort to attent my retirement party (from DHS) in September 2009; he made a great impression on me. His memory will stay with me forever.

And his shofar blowing was the highlight of the High Holidays! My heart goes out to the Schooner Family, hoping your memories bring you much comfort now and always!

Murray welcomed us warmly at the Shalom Club when we first arrived at Heritage Hunt. I always enjoyed his company at tennis. We bonded during the Variety Show in 2008. Murray preceded me on stage and we helped each other cope with nerves. Murray was busy counting the number of Jewish people in the show. I thought that was an amusing way of passing the time and distracting us from the potential terror of messing up on stage.

I am so sorry to the entire family for your loss. Murray will be sorely missed. I considered him a mentor and friend. Murray made a special effort to come to a breakfast meeting and introduce me as the guest speaker for a small business event. I got the chance to sit with him and tell him how much I appreciated his efforts toward small business concerns and his help with the IRS Small Business Program for many years. I am truly saddened by his loss.

I am sorry for your loss. The loss is a loss for the entire minority business community as well as all of his many, many peers. I was a board member with Murray at Diversity Information Resources. I represented PepsiCo on the board. Murray was tremendously passionate about MBE's, his knowledge of government support therein and his friends. Murray will be very, very, very sincerely missed. Above all he was a great guy. My heart felt best wishes.

My heart aches for you, the Murray Schooner family. I only met "Uncle Murray" once. He was warm and friendly and just a delightful person. Carolyn Coffman Moore, My daughter-in-law (Uncle Murray's niece) and her husband Paul (my son) always spoke so highly of Uncle Murray. They admired him and loved him. And, I got the impression that most people who knew Murray Schooner felt the same way. I'm so sorry for your loss to the Schooner and to the Coffman families. Irene Moore

Lorraine and Family, I was so sorry to hear of Murray's passing. It was a pleasure knowing and working with him for many years at Unisys. He was a dedicated employee who worked enthusiastically for the company and for small business. He was always ready to help small businesses figure out the crazy world of government contracting. He was always ready to speak at a gathering - to share his knowledge with others on the world of small business doing business with the federal government. And he was always ready to have a good time. He will be missed.
