Funeral services for David August Elskes, 74, of Palestine, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the Bailey and Foster Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Stephen Holcombe officiating. Burial will follow in Broyles Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Bailey and Foster Funeral Home.Mr. Elskes passed away Friday in Palestine. He was born Dec. 1, 1933 in Anderson County to Fred A. and Mary Ona Graser Elskes. Mr. Elskes was a retired correctional officer with TDCJ and had served in the Army. He was a member of Norwood Heights Baptist Church .Mr. Elskes was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Mary Hudson. He is survived by one daughter, Tanya Perry and husband Tracy of Palestine; companion, Geneva “Snookie” Chaffin of Palestine; step-daughters, Darla Edwards and husband Jesse, Sherry Chaffin and husband Stan, Connie Bowen and husband Steve and Kim Dickson and husband Brince; grandchildren, Jonathan Perry and Ashley Perry; and numerous step grand- and great-grandchildren.Pallbearers will be Donny Tippen, Rudy Flores, Jonathan Perry, Brince Dickson, Michael Paul and James Lanphier.Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Bailey and Foster Funeral Home.

I enjoyed working with Mr. Elskes for many years and missed him when he retired. Mr. Elskes was a friend to all who knew him and will be greatly missed by all.
