Gordon Grenville Smith



Gordon Grenville Smith of Casanova, VA died on September 21, 2008 from injuries sustained while foxhunting. He was born on May 6, 1937 in Montclair, New Jersey to the late Herbert L. Smith, Jr. and Natalie Sidman Smith. He graduated from Michigan State University with a BS in Agriculture and received an MBA from The University of Pennsylvania Wharton School in 1963. Gordon served his country for four years as a paratrooper in the Army National Guard. His Career began with Johnson and Johnson as Group Product Director. He also owned and operated Smith Recreational Vehicles in Branchburg Township, NJ. Gordon then successfully developed the Somerset Medical Office Park in Somerville, NJ and consulted physicians in business management. Gordon was a passionate foxhunter, loved books and loved his family. He was a member of the National Sporting Library, The VA Foxhound Club, the Old Dominion Hounds, the Warrenton Hunt and former president of the Bull Run Hunt along with his association with the Casanova Hunt. He served as Master of Fox Hounds for Amwell Valley Hounds in New Jersey for nine years prior to his move to Virginia in 1999. He is survived by his son Gordon G. Smith, Jr. of Bloomfield, MI, a daughter, Elizabeth Alden Smith of Orlean, VA, his sister, Linda Stedman Montague of St. Michaels, MD. Also surviving are his fianc?, Judy Allen of Casanova, VA, and three grandchildren, Max, Chase and Kali. A memorial service will be held on October 17, 2008 at 3pm at Grace Episcopal Church, The Plains, VA.
