Bart Bateman

Spencer Bart Bateman was born June 5, 1971 in Jerome, Idaho. Bart lived the early years
of his life on a small dairy farm near Shoshone, Idaho, and moved with his family to beautiful
Echo Valley near Colville, where he has resided until his passing on October 6, 2023.
Bart felt he and his siblings had the "run of the place" growing up on a farm with plenty
of space to work and play. After graduating from Colville High School, Bart then went away to
college for one semester, but quickly decided that wasn't for him. Farming was in his blood and
he returned home to farm with his family. Bart married the next spring. Although that marriage
later ended in divorce, it resulted in a family of six children who were Bart's greatest gifts and
joy for the rest of his life. Bart loved his family fiercely and was loved fiercely in return.
In order to make ends meet, Bart held various other jobs in addition to farming including;
working for Hartman Oil, working for the County Road Department, working with his family at
Colville Monument Works, working with his sons in construction and most recently, working for
the State Highway Department.
Bart often said of himself that the only thing he was really good at was working. While
acknowledging he was a very good worker, close friends and family knew Bart was much more.
He was a man of integrity. He was honest, kind, unselfish, fun, absolutely devoted to his own
and to his large extended family and incredibly loyal. If you had trouble, Bart would come
running.
He was so happy to have his six children close by and liked nothing better than to simply
hang out with them and enjoy their company and that of his five grandchildren.
Bart was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He
expressed his faith quietly by the way he treated others.
He is survived by his six children, Janessa Raska (Jordan) of Colville, WA, Brogan
Bateman of Colville, WA, Brock Bateman (Rachel) of Post Falls, ID, Baylee Bateman of
Colville, WA, Blake Bateman (Maddy) of Post Falls, ID, Jarette Bateman of Colville, WA; five
grandchildren, Ace and Ali Raska, Allen, Arlo and Sophie Bateman; parents, Spence and Jeanne
Bateman; siblings, Matt Bateman (Amanda), Camille Bateman, Jared Bateman (Kelly), Kari
Boswell (Jeremy) all of Colville, WA. Bart enjoyed rich association with numerous aunts,
uncles, cousins and a host of extended family, many of which lived nearby.
Bart's family will gather in his memory to share stories, honor his presence and anchor in
love. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Please visit the
