Elizabeth "Betty" Mamie Estenson, 91, died peacefully at Essentia Hospital in Fargo on September 30, 2024.
Betty was born on August 7, 1933, to Matthew and Fannie (Krapu) Luoto and raised in Fullerton, ND. She graduated from Fullerton Country School and went on to school in Minneapolis and eventually moved to Washington DC, where she did clerical work with the department of the Navy. Betty moved to Fargo, ND, in 1960 and worked at NDSU as a secretary in the civil engineering department.
Betty met Virgil Estenson, and they married on December 4, 1965. Together they ventured into the restaurant industry. First, they owned and operated the West Fargo Dairy Queen, then the Black Angus restaurant in Fargo and finally Virgo's Pizza in the West Acres mall and in West Fargo for 22 years before retiring.
Virgil died on February 4, 2008, and Betty moved to One Oak Place in 2012.
Betty's greatest loves were her family and her faith. She read the bible and her devotions daily. She had a love for animals and birds, especially hummingbirds. Sweets were a favorite, specifically jelly bellies and chocolates.
Surviving Betty's life and memory include her children April (Terry) Haar, Fargo, ND, Cheryl (Monty Mertz) Montgomery, West Fargo, ND, Shelly (Steve) Snow, Llano, TX, Rhonda (Jim) Flem, Fargo, ND, Paul (Julie) Estenson, St. Peter, MN, Jay (Jean) Estenson, Champlin, MN and Dean Estenson, Fargo, ND; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and sister Ellen McCauley, Middleton, CO.
Preceding Betty in death include her parents, husband Virgil, two sisters Evelyn Oster and Edna Kelly, infant brother Matthew, and son-in-law Todd Montgomery.
Visitation: Friday, October 4, 2024 from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM at West Funeral Home, Casselton, ND.
Funeral: Friday, October 4, 2024 at 10:00 AM at West Funeral Home, Casselton, ND.
Interment: Friday, October 4, 2024 at 12:30 PM at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo, ND.
