Johnathan Hiltner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by West Funeral Home & Life Tribute Center - Casselton on Oct. 14, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Johnathan Jeffery Hiltner, 24, of Casselton passed away after a short but courageous battle with Glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer, surrounded by his loved ones in his home.
Johnathan was born on November 25th, 2000 in Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, MN to Tammy (Hermanson) Hiltner and William Hiltner. He attended high school at Central Cass where he graduated in 2019. In high school, Johnathan was deeply passionate and involved in music where he was able to go to festivals, and regional/state music competitions. Johnathan also used his talent of bead art and helped the school raise money for a new music auditorium. Johnathan then went on to get his medical coding degree at M State Technical College graduating in 2022. Then he transitioned to working full time for Fed Ex as a package handler prior to diagnosis.
Johnathan enjoys creating, watching football and rooting for the Vikings, reading and collecting anime, playing Yu-Gi-Oh!, fishing, singing, making bead art, and learning about Japan and other cultures.
Johnathan was preceded in death by Grandma Donna Mae Hiltner, Grandpa Richard Hermanson, Aunt Amy Oleson, Uncle Jeffrey Hiltner, and his childhood dog Dakota. Johnathan is survived by his Grandpa Alphonse Hiltner, Grandma Shirley Hermanson and his parents William and Tammy, siblings Brittany and Nathan and his best furry buddy Ole. Additionally survived by his aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Thank you to all who supported Johnathan on his cancer journey. The incredible outpouring of prayer and support from family, friends, coworkers, employers and our communities have been a blessing since the start. Something that I know Johnathan would say to his loved ones and the people who have been supporting him throughout his life is that "God's got my back and never tell me the odds."
