Louisville, KY – On March 23, 2022, Cuma Lee "Kim" Stutz, 85, passed away at her home. She was a retired cosmetologist and a member of Southeast Christian Church and the Louisville Boat Club.
She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and husband, A. Victor Stutz. She is survived by her children, Henry Hensley (Ann), Gail Franklin (Jeff), Karen Richardson (Jay), Kathy Gravely (Melissa), and Victor's son, Carl Stutz (Nan). Kim was affectionately known as "Grammy" to her fourteen grandchildren: Michael Franklin (Jackie), Stephen Franklin (Genevieve), Justin Hensley (Sarah), Zachary Hensley, Charlie Ball (Michelle), Kathryn Miller (Keith), Jillian Gettelfinger (Michael), Cole Taylor, Abigail Satow, Matthew Satow, Isabelle Satow, Magnus Conway, Luke Conway, and Mariel Stutz. She sparkled talking about her seven great-grandchildren: Cash Gettlefinger, Kent Gettlefinger, Emmaline Miller, Myles Miller, Hensley Miller, Ila Franklin, and Cole Franklin.
Born in Pike County, Kentucky to Lawrence and Betty Bray, Kim was the youngest of twelve children. She graduated from Prestonsburg High School and later moved to Louisville. In the early 1970's, Kim attended cosmetology school and began her career as a licensed cosmetologist. She initially worked in several salons in Louisville. Then, from the early 1980's to mid-1990's she owned Kim's Beauty and Gift shop in Buechel.
Kim's creativity extended from her garden to her kitchen. She loved the outdoors and could often be found working in her garden and cultivating beautiful roses. In the spring and summer there was an amazing array of colorful blooms. Kim also designed a memorial garden dedicated to her mother who was an avid gardener, as well. She loved being on the water; either fishing at Juniper Club or sunning on Gail and Jeff's boat in Florida, however; the one thing that stands out most was her cooking. One never left her house hungry! Cooking from scratch, Kim loved making dishes her own way with a little bit of this, and a dash of that. Chicken and dumplings and fried chicken were family favorites, along with "orange dip," peanut butter fudge, and Butterfinger dessert. Holiday time boasted a table full of cookies, candies, meat dishes, shrimp cocktail, homemade eggnog, and always a relish tray. Family members knew to bring their own containers for taking home any delicious left-overs.
Kim enjoyed entertaining, meeting new people and travel. She is described by her friends as charming and always smiling. In their early years of marriage, Kim and Vic spent memorable time traveling the United States by car.
Kim's family sends their utmost appreciation to the many doctors, nurses and healthcare workers in the Baptist Health System for their care and support of Kim's health over the last several years.
Visitation is Friday, April 8 from 4 -7 p.m. Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Ln.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, April 9 at 10:00 a.m.
