Russell Arden Sager, 85, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on October 11, surrounded by his family. Russ was born in Elkhart, Indiana, on May 27, 1940, to Homer and Ruth Sager.
Russ grew up in Sullivan, Indiana, and attended Sullivan High School. He went on to graduate from Indiana University with a bachelor's degree in business administration.
Russ built an accomplished career in corporate purchasing, earning great respect as a thoughtful and principled leader. He began his career with the A.E. Staley Company (Decatur, IL) before taking on leadership roles at Farmbest (Jacksonville, FL), Dairymen, Inc. (Louisville, KY), and Borden Dairy (Columbus, OH). He concluded his career as Vice President of Seco & Golden 100 (DeLand, FL). Along the way, Russ was an active member-and one-time president-of the National Purchasing Association.
Outside of work, Russ was a loyal and devoted family man. He was known for his keen intelligence, kindness, and unwavering work ethic. He enjoyed maintaining his home, playing the occasional round of golf - after retirement, and, above all, spending time with his family. His love of travel inspired many international adventures with his wife, Patricia, and many cherished vacations with his grandchildren.
Russ is survived by his wife of 63 years, Patricia Sager; his son, Scott R. Sager, and daughter-in-law, Amy Sager; granddaughters Sarah Sager Augustyniak and Hattie Sager; and nephews Stephen and Matthew Sager. He was preceded in death by his brother, Don Sager, and his parents, Homer and Ruth Sager.
A private celebration of Russ's life will be held for close family and friends. To honor his memory, stay true to your word and take a moment each day to be kind to someone.
Russell A. Sager will always be remembered for his generosity, integrity, honesty, and the steadfast love and devotion he gave to his family. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Russell, please visit our floral store.
