Dean A. Powers

Dean A. Powers, of Bridgewater, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2023. Dean was born in 1932 to James and Katherine (Keep) Powers in Otisfield, Maine. He grew up in Bridgton, Maine with two sisters and four brothers. He graduated from Bridgton High School in 1951. He was president of his class and the captain of the school's baseball team.
In 1951 he enlisted in the United States Navy and was an aircraft mechanic at Quonset Point Naval Air Station.
After his service in the Navy, Dean moved to Massachusetts and studied at Bridgewater State College where he earned his bachelor's degree in U.S. history and a master's degree in education. He taught U.S. history at Apponequet High School in Lakeville, MA until he became assistant principal, and later retiring in 1989.
It was at Apponequet where Dean met another teacher, Carol A. Soares. They were married in 1971. Dean and Carol spent summers at their cottage in Naples, Maine where they enjoyed boating and spending time with their friends and family. In his free time, Dean loved to read and never missed a Red Sox game.
He leaves behind his wife Carol, his brother Dan Powers and his wife Sherrie of North Conway, New Hampshire, four sons, Neil Powers of Arizona, Mark Powers of Seekonk, David Powers of Middleboro, and Jeremy Powers of Taunton, as well as four grandchildren, Nevaeh, Lynae, Bryn and Christopher and two great-grandchildren, Riley and Carter.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday from 6-8 PM at Chapman Funerals and Cremations, 98 Bedford Street, Bridgewater. A Funeral Service will be held at the East Bridgewater United Methodist Church at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dean may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
