Elizabeth C. Maffett

Elizabeth C. Maffett, 87, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at Chambersburg Hospital. She was born December 27, 1935 in Lewistown, PA, the daughter of the late William and Cathryn Schwinger.
She was a long time member of First Lutheran Church where she was very active with the Quilting Club, Meals on Wheels, meals for funerals, delivering to shut-ins and the Women's Circle.
Liz started her education at West Chester University and later went back to school when her children got older, earning her Bachelors Degree in Education from Shippensburg State College. She then taught first grade at Greenvillage Elementary in Chambersburg for 25 years.
She enjoyed traveling. She made many trips with the Retired Teachers Association and another highlight was spending New Year's Eve of 2000 in Switzerland with her husband and family. She loved working in her vegetable and flower gardens and was grateful for the friendship and assistance of her neighbors and friends.
Elizabeth is survived by two sons: Richard F. Maffett, Jr. (Barbara)of Mechanicsburg, William L. Maffett (Kelly) of Venice, FL; grandchildren: Richard Ivor (Nicole), Timothy (Lydia), Andrew (Beth), Alex (Brielle), Alexis, Payton, four great grandchildren, a sister, Maryanne Zahn and a brother-in-law, Donald Heimbaugh.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Richard F. Maffett, Sr. (2018) and a brother William Schwinger.
As per Liz's wishes, there will be no services.
