Eugene Hartwell Norwood

HENDERSON- Eugene Hartwell "Gene" Norwood, 82, of NC Highway 39 N, died September 7, 2023 at Duke University Hospital. Born September 2,1941 in Vance County, he was the son of the late Estelle Hope Norwood and Benjamin Alexander Norwood. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and retired from Rose's Stores, Inc. Gene was a member of Island Creek Baptist and the G.W. Norwood Sunday School Class.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at Island Creek Baptist Church by Rev. Johnny Yount. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
Gene is survived by his wife, Cilicia Jarrell Norwood of the home; his son, Curtis Wayne Norwood and wife, Charity of Ridgeway; and two sisters, Nancy N. Thomas of Oxford and Linda N. Wilcox of Greenville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen N. Paynter and Marie N. Phillips; and three brothers, William A. "Buck" Norwood, Benajmin A. Norwood, Jr. and James E. Norwood.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Donnie Hogge, Bernie Vollmer, Stephen Whitt, Daren Small, Alan Rivers, P.G. Vaughan, Gene Arthur Vaughan, Nathan Fleming, Junior Proctor and Kenneth O'Geary.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the G.W. Norwood Sunday School Class.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. at J.M. White Funeral Home as well as following the service on Tuesday in the fellowship hall of Island Creek Baptist Church and at other times at the home.
