Florence L. Connoly, devoted wife, mother and fan of any team her grandchildren played on, died on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Garnet Medical Center in Middletown. She was 91.
The daughter of the late Frank Majka and Aniela Gusciora Majka, she was born on August 18, 1932 in Pine Island, NY. Florence married Robert L. Connoly on October 23, 1954 in Pine Island. Proud of her Polish heritage and traditions, she taught her Irish-Italian husband how to dance the polka and they made an elegant pair on the dance floor. Together they raised two sons, worked hard and danced whenever they had the occasion. She loved to make floral arrangements and decorate her home with each change of seasons. Florence also liked to go to casinos and play the slots, but her favorite pastime was cheering on her grandchildren at hockey, soccer and softball games. She always made time for family and made a welcoming home for everyone who entered.
Florence is survived by her two sons, Mark and his wife Lori of Howells, NY and Glen and his wife Susan of Walden, NY and her beloved grandchildren, Lauren Reiser and her husband Patrick, Mark Jr and his fiancé Kristen Radici, Hannah, and Sarah, Cindy and Matthew.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Robert on November 3, 2021 and six siblings, Joseph, Benjamin, Albert Majka, and Stella Kerstanski, Jennie Myslinski, and Sophie Mandik.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm on Monday, October 16th at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Ave, Middletown, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Tuesday, October 17th at St. Joseph's Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY 10940. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery, immediately following the Mass.
Donations may be made to St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY 10940.
