Gerald "Jerry" Alan DeCarteret, of Brighton, MI, passed away at Brighton Manor Memory Care Facility after a long battle with Alzheimer's on March 18, 2023 at 82 years of age. He was born on February 9, 1941, in Detroit, MI, to the late Wilfred "Bill", and Natalie DeCarteret.
Jerry and his wife, Jan, married in 1963 after his graduation from Lawrence Tech University where he obtained a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. He was a very handy man and would often take on home projects himself. He loved to golf, and in his retirement he and Jan spent much of their time golfing together. Above all else, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He cherished his time spent with his family as they were everything to him.
Devoted husband of Janice for 60 years; loving father of Gary (Tammy) DeCarteret, Steve (Ashley) DeCarteret, and Dave (Gretchen) DeCarteret; proud grandfather of Eric (Leah) DeCarteret, Lauren DeCarteret, Kelsey DeCarteret, and Dana DeCarteret; dear brother of Sandra (the late Bob) Sommerfield. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Per his wishes, a private, family celebration of life will be held.
Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy are asked to consider making a contribution in Jerry's honor the Alzheimer's Association.
