Glennis was born July 18, 1939 to Frank and Edna Pafko at the Annie Viken Maternity home in
Blackduck, MN. Glennis grew up on the family farm a mile and a half north of Blackduck. Living so close to the railroad tracks, she often recalled how she would excitedly wait for the train to pass by as the conductor would blow the train whistle and toss her Hershey Bars.
As Glennis grew older, she attended Blackduck School, graduating in 1957. Glennis had fond memories of her time as a cheerleader, playing in the high school band, and staff member of the high school newspaper, The Blackduckling. She reminisced about roller skating at City Hall and hanging out with her friends at the confectionary. Glennis was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was baptized and confirmed. She found comfort and solace in her faith. Glennis played the piano and organ. She started at such a young age; her father had to work the pedals on the organ because her feet couldn't reach them.
Glennis was united in marriage to Gary Moon. Along with their son, Dirk, the family moved to Minneapolis where she was employed by Northwestern National Bank, which later became Norwest and eventually Wells Fargo. Glennis was employed with the bank for over 37 years, working her way up through management and eventually promoted to a vice president in the banking industry. Becoming vice president in a male dominated banking world was a very significant achievement. Through the bank she was a member of the Executive Women International. It was always Glennis and Gary's dream to move back home and retire in Blackduck. In 1994, their dreams came true. Glennis was so fortunate to spend her last 30 years in Blackduck, sharing her creative talents in countless ways. Glennis loved Blackduck so very much! Retirement brought many adventures for Glennis. She enjoyed playing with her chihuahua Jazzy, tip toeing through the tulips as she gardened, playing piano, traveling, crafting, puzzles, organizing and reorganizing and re-re organizing, spending time with family, and being a very active member of the Blackduck community. She had a "get it done spirit" and was involved in countless areas of service.
Glennis belonged to the; Holy Trinity Ladies Aid, bible study groups, Blackduck Garden Club, the Senior Center, and the Blackduck Area History & Arts Center. She often laughed that when she was recruited for the park board, her first duty was cleaning the outhouses at Pine Tree Park! She loved working at the Wood Carvers Festival with the Garden Club ladies, and she was proud to say she worked on the Lady Slipper Scenic Byway project in 2016. Glennis was instrumental in establishing the Blackduck Area History & Arts Center in 2006. She loved collecting information and historical artifacts that could be displayed and written about in the newsletter. At the History Center Glennis enjoyed visiting and socializing with patrons young and old. Glennis also wrote Pathways to the Past for The Blackduck American newspaper. She was honored to be the Grand Marshall of the Backwoods Bash parade.
Glennis enjoyed spending time with her family and friends around the kitchen table with a cup of coffee and a sweet treat. But most of all Glennis treasured her family, and her family treasured her. Glennis also was known by her family as "Nunkie", "the Big Ma Moon", "Gladeye", and was the matriarch of her family. Not only was she Dirk's mother, but Glennis was also known as the "Other Mother" to her sisters and brother, and "Auntie Grandma" to her great nieces and nephews.
Her light, laughter and stories will live on in all those she loves.
Remembering Glennis with great love are her beloved son, Dirk, brother Mitchel (Genelle) Pafko, sisters Sydni (Melvin) Mansager and Allison (Tony) Pafko, brother-in-law Dennis (Norma) Moon, sister-in-law Carol, cherished nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and her puppy Jazzy.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gary, parents Frank and Edna Pafko, mother and father-in law Bud and May Moon, brother-in-law Wayne Moon, sister-in-law Marlin Weeks.
