Gwendolyn Theresa Bradford Mohair was a faithful servant of God. She loved the Lord, her family, church and community. She was born on February 3, 1952 to the late Reverend T. T. and Ella Mae Bradford in Houston, Texas.
Gwendolyn accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of her father and pastor, Rev. T. T. Bradford. She was an anointed musician and singer. At the age of 8 she began her music ministry as a church pianist proudly earning $1.25 each Sunday. Gwendolyn served as Minister of Music at various churches throughout the city of Houston. Her ministry and passion for singing included the Alvin Dread Singers, Michael Burns and Spirit, and the Houston Mass Choir. Later in her life she became a proud member of The R.O.C.K. where she served as a member of The R.O.C.K Inter-generational Choir and The R.O.C.K. Women's Ensemble. Along with these ministries Gwendolyn most cherished ministry was influencing the lives of the children of the Kingdom Kids Choir. Gwendolyn also shared her musical talents both vocal and instrumental with her children, youth throughout the states and many others without hesitation. She remained a faithful member of The R.O.C.K. until her death.
Gwendolyn is a product of the Houston Independent School District attending J. C. Sanderson Elementary and Kashmere Gardens Junior and Senior High School. While attending Kashmere Senior High School she was a member of the reknown Kashmere Jazz Band conducted by Professor Conrad Johnson and a majorette in the high school marching band. Gwendolyn graduated in the Class of 1970 and immediately attended Texas Women's University in Denton, Texas. There Gwendolyn earned her Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing. While attending Texas Women's University she met and married Taft T. Mohair. They were blessed in their union with two children, Taft T. Mohair II and Tia Tre'Shun Mohair. Upon passing of the nursing examination for the Texas State Board of Nursing, Gwendolyn became a Registered Nurse. She began her career in nursing at the historic Saint Elizabeth's Hospital in Houston's Fifth Ward as an OB-GYN nurse. She later transitioned to the Houston Independent School District serving the students, faculty and staff for over thirty-five years. Gwendolyn better known by her students and coworkers as "Nurse Mohair" was the school nurse at Dechaumes Elementary, Kashmere Senior High, Booker T. Washington High School and Francis Scott Key Middle School. Not only was she the school nurse at both high schools she was the Cheerleaders sponsor and the sponsor of Kashmere High School Stepping Ramettes.
Gwendolyn is preceded in death by her parents, Reverend T. T. and Ella Mae Bradford; sister, Doris Arceneaux and brother Donald Bradford. She leaves to cherish her legacy two wonderful children, Taft Tyrone Mohair II (Andrea) and Tia Tre'Shun Lloyd (Charlie); grandchildren, Tailen Lloyd, T'Kyah Lloyd, Taft Mohair III, Amaya Mohair, Jaelan White and Madisen Humphrey; special daughters, Tina Giles and Demetria White; God children, Roderick O. Sis. Mohair was integral in the foundation of my service in the music ministry. No one pushed me vocally the way she did. She saw much more in me than I could ever see in myself. I thank God for her life and ministry in the Kingdom of God. My prayers and condolences to the Mohair family.
