James Cox Obituary James L. Cox 75, of Winterville NC entered into eternal rest on December 17, 2024. Celebration of Life will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, December 28, 2024, at St. Reddick Missionary Baptist Church. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Northside Cemetery. Ministry of Comfort Entrusted to Paradise Funeral Home Inc.
James Lee "Uncle Joe" Cox was born to the late Benjamin Cox, Jr and the late Lillie Mae Doe Cox on October 5, 1949, in Belhaven, North Carolina. He was called into eternal rest on December 17, 2024, at ECU Health Medical Center with his baby girls right by his side.
Joe was educated in the Beaufort County School System. In 2011, he attended Mt Gileads School of Ministry & obtained his Diploma of Christian Education. He also was ordained a Deacon under the leadership of Pastor Thomas Ballad at Mt Gilead Pentecostal Church. As of the past couple of years, he was a member of Divine Covenant Restoration Center under the leadership of Pastor James Whitfield. He was employed at Sea Safari Crab & Fish House and loved to go "out on the water", which is evident by how excited he got EVERYTIME he told that long story.
Joe was most passionate about God and the bible, his family (especially his kids & grandkids), and fishing, shrimping, & crabbing. He was greatly loved by everyone and as the saying is, would give you the shirt off his back; hed do anything for anyone.
Joe was a devoted, loving and caring father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was preceded in death by his twin sisters Mary Ann & Mary Lee Cox.
To cherish in his memories and sorrow in his passing, Joe leaves: Patricia Cox (wife) of Belhaven, NC; sons Elijah Jones-Cox (Pam) of Brunswick, GA, Bernie Freeman (Bernice) of Washington, NC, and Lonnie "Pop" Freeman of Sioux City, Iowa; daughters Aquisha Smith (Lavar) of Greenville, NC, Ashley Thompson of Zebulon, NC, Tineshia Cox (with whom he lived) of Winterville, NC, & Nikeshia Cox of Greenville, NC. Grandsons Jimmion "Lautez" Clayton, Jai Sadler, William "Chip" Speller, Quamain Sadler, NyJheir "Fatman" Cox; granddaughters Evasheila Johnson, Retha "Keosha" Norfleet, Nikera Roberson, TyNijah Cox, TeYauna Parker, KeMauriuah "Butta" Parker, & KeLiyah Feggins; 5 great-grandchildren; brothers Ben Cox III, Robert "Ponch0" Cox (Develia), & Brady Cox; sisters Mary Franks, Verlesia Spencer (Johnny), & Clinestine Jenkins (Kenneth); special and only surviving aunt, Goldring Satchell; devoted care team Mrs. Julia Best; Ophelia Burt, Sonya Brewington, CenterWell Home Health, & MCR Home Health; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, & friends.
