James E. Floyd Sr., died on Wednesday February 15, 2023 with his son and daughter in law by his side. He was born December 26, 1931 in Rockford, IL to the union of Charles and Lucille Floyd. James received his education in Rockford Schools. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving 4 years. James was employed 35 years by Sjostroms and Sons before retiring. He was a board member at Booker Washington Community Center, in Rockford. He married Ethel Standfield of this union.
James leaves to cherish many loving memories, his sons, James Jr. (Veronica) Floyd, Andrew (Pam) Floyd and Jay (Jammie) Floyd; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren; sister Ruby Wilson of Atlanta, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends, including special friends Mary Dishman of Rockford, IL. He was predeceased by his parents; daughter, Ramona Floyd; six sisters, Ethel Floyd, Flora Floyd Clark, Alma Floyd Irving, Alean Floyd Mills, Odelia Floyd Thornton and Joyce Floyd Smith; three brothers, William, Andrew and Raymond Floyd; two wives, Ethel Stanfield and Hazel Hale.
The family would like to thank Acardian Hospice of Layfette, Louisiana; and special grand daughter, Shilonda Floyd for all her help with his care and adopted dog Rico. Very special thanks to his caregiver, Margaret Perro, who care for him with love and compassion.
Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home Inc. 200 N. Johnston Ave. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. until the time of service
