Joan Louise Anderson, age 96 of Plymouth, Michigan passed away on January 7, 2024 in Livonia, Michigan.
Born on November 11, 1927, in Saginaw, Michigan to her parents, the late Louise and John Gilles. Joan was the beloved wife of John Anderson (deceased) and Robert Rienas (deceased); loving mother of Jane Hasse (Ken) and James Anderson (Susan); proud grandmother of Douglas Hasse (Mara), Gregory Hasse, Timothy Hasse (Mackenzie), Suzanne Hasse, and Emily, Mitchell, and Lauren Anderson; loving great-grandmother of Benjamin and Lukas Hasse.
Joan moved to Plymouth in 1932 and remained in Plymouth for the remainder of her life. She graduated from Plymouth High School (old Central) in 1945. Joan graduated college from Eastern Michigan University in 1950 and began her long career as a school teacher. She was a Livonia Elementary teacher from 1950-1960 and a Plymouth-Canton teacher from 1979-1990.
Joan enjoyed playing the piano and being “The Music Lady” for elementary children after she retired. She was an active member of the Plymouth community. A longtime member of St. Kenneth Catholic Church and served as an Usher, served on the church council, and made crafts for the Sunday School children. She was also a docent at the Plymouth Historical Museum, a life member of the AAUW, a board member of the Plymouth Community Council of Aging, and volunteered at the Plymouth Adult Day Care since 1981.
Friends may visit the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth, Michigan on Friday, January 12, 2024 from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Kenneth Catholic Church, 14951 North Haggerty Road, Plymouth, Michigan on Saturday, January 13, 2024. Joan will be in-state beginning at 9:30 A.M. until the time of the Mass beginning at 10:00 A.M.
Joan will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery in Plymouth, Michigan.
