Joan M. Dill, age 87, passed away on Friday August 18, 2023 with her family at her side.

Born in Erie, PA she was the only child of Kelsey and Ruth Riley Brown.

She is survived by daughters, Debra Naughton (Gordie), Lorrie Mensing (Ron), both of Erie; son, Thomas Dill of Zephyrhills FL; granddaughters, Elizabeth Mensing, Sarah Dopsovic (Ryan); her great granddaughter, Audrey; and a great many good friends.

Joan was a hard worker all of her life. Her natural talents emerged in her career at Children's Services of Erie Co. (Office of Children and Youth).  Starting in the file room in 1977, advancing to a Social Service Aide providing support services to families, staff, and the Juvenile Court, retiring in 2000. She was well known and respected by judges, attorneys, and all levels of agency staff.  She had a reputation for cogent testimony at dependency and orphan's court matters.  She really cared for the families with whom she worked and went above and beyond to provide for them.  After retirement, she returned for several years in a part time supportive capacity to agency staff and families. Joan loved to read, especially a criminal mystery and gave many volunteer hours to the Friends of the Erie Co. Library.  She also devoted herself to SOS 4 KIDZ, a group meeting the needs of foster children. She loved a project… she couldn't sit still for long. Joan was a vital force in life, a "can do" person, brave, smart, and kind.  She knew who needed help, and helped them, without expectation. She will be well missed by her loving family, friends, and Kitty.

Friends may call at the Burton Quinn-Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, Wintergreen, 2532 Norcross Road, Erie on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm and are invited to attend a service there at 2:00 pm. Burial to follow in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
