John D. Glover, affectionately known as "Papa John," passed away on July 2, 2023, in
Moundsville, WV, at the age of 75. Born on August 16, 1947, John lived a life full of love, laughter, and a touch of mischief.
John served his country with pride as a member of the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War. His bravery and dedication to his fellow soldiers will never be forgotten. Following his military service, John found himself as the Superintendent of Prison Industries at the Department of Corrections, where he left a lasting impact on his colleagues and the community.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, John was a proud member of various organizations that held a special place in his heart. He lent his support and camaraderie to the American Legion Post 3, the Masonic Lodge – Marshall Union #8, and the Moundsville VFW Auxiliary #437, where he served as Commander for four years and Quartermaster for eight years. These groups provided him with countless friendships and memories that lasted a lifetime.
John is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bobbye Jean (Wade) Glover, as well as his parents, John A. and Beatrice (Heslop) Glover. Left to cherish his memory are his stepdaughter, Jennifer (John) Carr of
Benwood, WV; his sons, Scott (Ruth Ann) Glover of Stephens City, VA, and Timothy Glover of Edinburg, VA; and his grandchildren, Alyssa Robertson, Stefan Glover, Alexa Young, Aiden Young, and several great-grandchildren. Not to be forgotten is his furry companion and best friend, "Gibbs," who brought joy to his life every single day.
Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Friday, July 7, from 4-8 p.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home – Lutes & Kirby-Vance Chapel, located at 118 Grant Avenue in
Moundsville, WV.
To honor John's service to his country, a graveside service with full Military Honors by the Sistersville Honor Guard and Masonic Rites will be held on Saturday, July 8, at 11:00 a.m. at Riverview Cemetery, situated at 1854 Found Bottom Hill in
Moundsville, WV.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Moundsville VFW Auxiliary #437 Scholarship Program, located at 114 Grant Street,
Moundsville, WV 26041, or to Valley Hospice at 10686 State Route 150, Rayland, OH 43943. These donations will ensure that John's legacy of kindness and support continues to brighten the lives of others.
John D. Glover may have left this world, but his dedication, service and Love of Country will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. Rest in peace, Papa John.
