Harry Alexander "Big Al" Bishop passed away peacefully at his home in
Wheeling, WV, early Friday morning, July 18th, 2025. Al was a native to Wheeling, and was one of eight children. He was preceded in death by his mother Roberta Bishop, and his brother Mike Bishop. He was also preceded by his wife's parents, Rena and Bill Blaney, who cared deeply for him. He was happily married to Nancy Bishop, formerly Nancy Blaney, and made their love eternal on September 9th, 1989 in Moundsville WV.
Al is survived by his wife Nancy-his three children Jim (Christie) White, Betsy Bishop, and Daniel Bishop. As well as his 5 grandchildren: Kasey (Stephen), Jay, Wyatt, Maddie, and Iris. One great granddaughter, Ellie. Al is also survived by his siblings: Catherine Bishop, Dave (Susan) Bishop, Jackie McGlaughlin, Virginia Bishop, John(Hannah) Bishop and Toni Cope. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews, as well as their families. Not to be forgotten, he is also survived by his life long best friend Joe (Beth) Key. His love for you all, unable to be measured by words.
Big Al devoted his life to providing for his family. He retired from work as a security guard, where he was stationed at numerous locations throughout the years. His favorite place was right at home-surrounded by family, watching the kids play, and enjoying his favorite movies on television- most of which he could recite word for word. Al's passions included telling the best jokes, eating great food, shooting pool, and sitting around a table with loved ones catching up. He was a man who enjoyed the simple things in life, no doubt leaving that impression on all who were lucky enough to know and love him.
Al was a recipient of Hospice Care in the final days of his life. The family is grateful for the compassion, kindness, and unmatched support that every individual showed to us during this difficult time.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, July 22, from 4:00 pm until time of service at 6:00 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Homes Wheeling Chapel, 1400 Eoff St.
