John Robert "Bobby" Redmond Sr.

John Robert "Bobby" Redmond, Sr., 92, of Columbus, GA died Friday, January 13, 2023 at Columbus Hospice House.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 17, 2023 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Reverend John Burnett officiating. Interment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery following the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Monday, January 16, 2023.
Bobby was born December 2, 1930 in Columbus, GA son of the late Melvin S. Redmond, Sr. and Muriel Newsome Redmond. He was a 1948 graduate of Jordan High School and worked for Norfolk Southern Railway for 49 years. Bobby grew up in Eastern Heights Baptist Church where he served as a church clerk and deacon, he later became an active member of Hilton Terrace Baptist Church for many years. Bobby was a former member of the Sports Council for the City of Columbus and served as the past president of Pioneer Little League. Bobby was instrumental in developing the Upward Basketball program and loved attending his children's and grandchildren's ball games.
Other than his parents he is preceded on death by his brothers, Joe Redmond, Bill Redmond, Jack Redmond and his great grandchild, Mackenzie Redmond.
Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Betty Owens Redmond of Columbus, GA; children, Ronny Redmond (Amber) of Columbus, GA, Misty Smallwood of Columbus, GA, Robby Redmond (Jennifer) of Columbus, GA; brother, George Redmond (Patsy) of Marietta, GA; grandchildren, Andrew Redmond (Vanessa); Haley Davis (Trey), Tyler Redmond, Will Redmond, Jacob Redmond; eight great grandchildren.
