Kenneth “Ken” Berg, 86, of Moorhead, MN, passed away July 22, 2023, at River Pointe Assisted Living in Moorhead. Kenneth was affectionately known to his family as “Papa Bear”.
Kenneth Jerald Berg was born August 21, 1936, the youngest of six children, to James and Hilda (Pederson) Berg. He was raised in Moorhead and graduated from Moorhead High School. He then attended Moorhead State University where he received his degree in Education.
Kenneth’s career was dedicated to education, beginning as a teacher at Hendrum High School, then representing teachers with the Minnesota Education Association in Moorhead, and the Wisconsin Education Association in Rice Lake, WI. For a brief time, he also served as a mediator for Cenex-Land O’Lakes.
Over the years he was a very active member of the National Education Association.
Kenneth enjoyed playing and listening to music, golfing, and fishing. He also enjoyed cooking, especially for his friends and family on their many hunting and fishing trips.
He is survived by his wife, Solveig Berg; children, Karen (David) Downing, Michael Berg, Colleen (Ron Stroh) Berg, Connie (Steve Elgar) Berg and Frederick (Denelle) Berg; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Loretta; brothers, Tillman, Ervin, and Gerhard “Smokey”; sisters, Janet and Irene; and stepson, Peter Mead.
Funeral Services for Kenneth will be Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 11:00 AM, in Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN, with a Visitation one hour prior to his service. A burial will follow in Concordia Cemetery, Rural Glyndon, MN.
