Mardell Ida Puckett 86, of
Evansville, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at Hamilton Pointe.
She was born Mardell Ida Baker on January 9, 1938 in East Chicago, Indiana, the youngest of four girls, to the late Louise (Barecke) and Benjamin Edwin Baker. Mardell grew up in Hammond, Indiana and graduated from Hammond Morton High and Valparaiso University with a BS in physical education. She married Robert Lynn Green and had four children, Louise Blanche, Robert Lynn Jr., Randell Scott, and Bradley Thomas Green.
Mardell taught kindergarten, helped establish Jene' Aloe Vera Skin Care Corporation, and when sold to CareFree, traveled to Canada, giving seminars on the aloe vera line of products. Her second marriage was to Joseph Lee Puckett.
She worked for Kruckemeyer & Cohn Jewelers as assistant manager and a Registered Jeweler for 17 years, continued part time after retiring in 2000 until December 2014. She thought the job would just be something she would do for a short while and it was a total of 31 years.
Mardell was a Honorary Regent of the Capt. Henry Vanderburgh Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, State and Chapter Conservation Chairman, National Vice Chairman Community Service, President of the Indiana Officers Club, and Chapter Memorial Chairman, which is a committee she started.
Mardell was President of Thomas Sprigg Sr. Chapter of the National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century, Chaplain, Treasurer, Memorial Chairman and State Insignia Chairman. Belonged to the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War and the Hugh McGary Sr. Chapter of United States Daughters of the War of 1812 as Chaplain.
She enjoyed being a Docent at the Reitz Home Museum, a member of the Reitz Guild, serving as Membership Chairman, a member of Bethel United Church of Christ, where she was President of the Pricilla Circle. She loved her family and grandchildren, was a homemaker, loved cooking, gardening, camping, doing family research, beating her grandchildren at solitaire, and instilling certain foods as a family tradition. Mardell even printed a cook book of favorite family recipes for everyone so that they wouldn't be lost forever.
Mardell was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Louise Blanche Green; son, Randell Scott Green; sisters, Marjorie Tygett, Ruth Seymour and Louise Sayger.
She leaves husband, Joseph Puckett; her children, Robert Green Jr. (Allyson) of Newburgh, IN, Bradley Green (Melinda) of Olathe, KS; and stepchildren, Donna Ponce of
Olivehurst, CA, Bradley Puckett of
Sacramento, CA, and Denise LaRue of Fair Oaks, CA; daughter-in-law, Sherri Green of Newburgh, IN; seven grandchildren, Mitchell Green (Amy) of Minneapolis, MN, Amanda Kapp (Ryan) of Newburgh, IN, Blair Case (Ryan) of Newburgh, IN, Austin Green (Natalie) of Chandler, AZ, Randi Wiesjahn (Ryan) of Newburgh, IN, Tyler Green of Olathe, KS, and Tanner Green of Chicago, IL; two step grandchildren, Utah Ponce of
Evansville, IN, and Cameron Ponce of Indianapolis, IN; five great granddaughters, Emery Mardell Kapp, Sutton Kapp, Baker Kapp, Linden Green, and Finley Case; three great grandsons, Harris Green, Etcher Wiesjahn, Laken Wiesjahn, and one on the way; and by three nieces and three nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave.,
Evansville, IN 47711 by the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Colonial Dames, and the National Society United States Daughters of 1812 Hugh McGary Sr. Chapter. A celebration of life will follow. Mardell's burial will be held at Park Lawn Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 12:00 Noon until 4:00 PM on Sunday, May 26, 2024 at Browning Funeral Home and again from 9:00 AM until service time at the funeral home on Tuesday.
