Margaret Atkinson Obituary
Margaret Lee Atkinson went home to be with Jesus on Monday, November 20, 2023.
She was born on April 12, 1927, to Charles and Lilly McClure Atkinson. She grew up in Waynesville with her siblings, Buck, Mike, Edith, Harriet, Francis, Charles, Nat Nat, and Fred. She was a loyal mother to her children and their many high school friends and a doting grandmother to her four grandchildren. She was an exceptional artist and seamstress, known to create portraits, comical caricatures, clothes, and dolls. A certified gourmet chef her food was second to none. She valued her many dogs and cats. Often called the "Cat Lady" she was also known to teach her pets to speak. One of them, her dog Bruna, could say "I love you!" She was an avid birdwatcher and could identify each of the birds living around her home.
Preceding Margaret in death are her parents, Charles and Lilly Atkinson, and her daughter, Martha Hyde Jones. She is survived by her son, Charlie Hyde and his wife Christine of Asheville, and her grandchildren Roger "Trey" Harris and his wife Jill of Greenville, SC; John Harris and his wife Amy of Kinston; Kelly Kranker and her husband Kyle of Asheville; and Erin White of Nags Head; and her ten great-grandchildren, Roger, Anna Kate, Elizabeth, Sarah, Carter (Zoe), Dylan, Kennedy H., Kennedy K., Kamryn, and Nathan.
A private ceremony celebrating Margaret's life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph's Indian School or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
