Margaret J. Zilinsky, 73, of Danvers, passed away from a rare form of cancer on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at home surrounded by her loved ones. Born in Beverly, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Jane (Rutledge) Smith. Margaret was the loving wife of Robert J. Zilinsky with whom she shared 33 years of marriage.
She graduated from Beverly High School in 1966 and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Urban Planning at Salem State. Her career included positions with the North Shore Economic Council, the Guilford Railroad, and the Massachusetts Highway Department before retiring from a construction management company in 2012. In addition to her successful career, she was a passionate member on the Danvers Planning Board for over 20 years.
While growing up in Beverly, she enjoyed spending time at the beach and at St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Later in life Margaret loved to travel, play golf, and ski with her husband and friends. She always cherished time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren.
Margaret is survived by her husband, Robert; son, David "Scott" Gromko and his wife Ann Marie of Lynnfield; grandchildren, Hannah, Chloe and Maxwell Gromko of Lynnfield; brother, Charles "Deane" Smith and his wife Linda of Danvers and nephew, Charles Zachery Smith of Salem. She was predeceased by her son, William F. Gromko III and brother, Peter E. Smith.
Visiting hours will be held at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, on Thursday, October 20, from 10:00a.m. to 12:00p.m. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 4 Ocean Street, Beverly, at 12:30p.m. (masks required), burial to follow at North Beverly Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Margaret's name to Mass General Brigham Center for Cancer Research at www.giving.massgeneral.org.
