Michael Frances O'Brien age 82 of Holland, formerly of Lansing and Greenville, passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Resthaven Maple Woods in Holland. He was born August 1, 1943 in Lansing, the son of Jack and Frances (Gorman) O'Brien. Mike graduated from Resurrection High School in Lansing, MI in 1962. His high school years were spent on the football field, basketball court, and baseball diamond. Mike was an incredible athlete, teammate, and leader. He served as captain of each of his sports teams and was the first to give shoes or cleats to his teammates that did not have them, so they could play too. Spending time with his brothers brought him great joy. Mike had the opportunity to share the football field with his brothers and they were a force to be reckoned with. His parents rarely missed a game, and were incredible supporters of his athletic endeavors. After school, Mike played semi-pro baseball. Later, spent most of his adult years in automobile sales and continued to love all things sports. Whether that was watching the Michigan State Spartans, cheering on the Detroit teams, or watching his grandchildren in action. What he loved most was to spend time with his family. Mike will be remembered for his athleticism, kind heart, fierce love for his family, and most of all his amazing humor. He loved to laugh and never failed to put a smile on the faces of those around him. Mike is survived by his daughters Jennifer L. O'Brien-Martinez (Chris) of Holland and Shana M. (Joe) Horton of Fenton. four grandchildren Liebbe O. Martinez, Myla J. Martinez, Michael J. Horton, and Myles J. Horton. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Pat, Jim, and Bob. Memorial Services will be 3 PM Sunday, November 9, 2025 at the Marshall Funeral Home, Greenville, with members of the family meeting with friends and relatives from 2 PM till the service.
