Obituary published on Legacy.com by Harold W. Vick Funeral Home, Inc. - Mount Clemens on Jan. 16, 2024.
Michael Scott Neil, age 41 of Harrison Twp, MI passed away with tremendous courage and grace on Friday, January 12th, 2024 at Karmanos Cancer Center in
Detroit, MI. He was surrounded by his loved ones at the end. Mike was born on September 16th, 1982, to Michael Patrick Neil and Margaret (Kramer) Neil. Mike married his soulmate and the love of his life, Christine Marie (Smith) Neil, on October 6th, 2012, in Detroit MI. Together, they shared a deep love for and devotion to their precious animals over the years.
Mike graduated from L'Anse Creuse High School in 2001 where he lettered in 3 sports (football, baseball, and wrestling). He made All State in wrestling in his junior year. He most certainly would have repeated that feat in his senior year, but sustained an injury that caused him to drop out of the State competition. His athletic prowess garnered him recognition as the best athlete of his high school in the year he graduated. Mike had a great and imposing physical presence, but he was very kindhearted and loving to all who knew him. Upon graduation, Mike attended Kent State University (a division 1 school in the MAC collegiate division) on a scholarship for wrestling. He sustained a career-ending injury and transferred to Wayne State University in Detroit, MI for the final year of college. He earned his bachelor's degree in Geography.
Mike loved working with his hands, and he preferred working outside in cold weather. He pursued employment in underground construction. He was most recently employed at Shelby Underground in Shelby, MI as a pipefitter. Mike was multi-talented in all sports, played guitar, loved camping and the outdoors, enjoyed iconic comedy films such as Step Brothers, Napoleon Dynamite, and Trading Places to name a few (He knew all the funny lines), was a fabulous cook, and a highly skilled carpenter. It was always a treat for everyone when Mike made amazing meals for his many cherished friends and family. While resting of late, Mike could often be found in the company of his feline friends Maurice, Spike, Vinnie, Kinky, Peanut, and Lucy.
Mike was easy to be with and down to earth. He just made you feel comfortable. He will be dearly missed by his wife Christine, mother Margaret, brother Eric, in-laws Dannelly and Donna Smith, in-law Walter Sobocinski, and the many relatives and friends that have been an important part of his life. He is preceded in death by his father Michael Patrick Neil.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the Harold W. Vick Funeral Home, Mt. Clemens. A celebration of Mike's life will be held Sunday, February 4, 2024 from 5:00p.m. pm till 9:00p.m. at the SCS Moose Lodge #1837, 33877 Harper Ave., Clinton Township 48035. He did not want a "funeral or flowers." His last wish was for repairs to be completed on their home so that Christine wouldn't have to worry about it. In lieu of flowers or charity, please private message Christine, Donna, or Dan for info on how to donate toward Mike's last wish."
