On Friday, September 1, 2023, Robert Rodriguez Sr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Born with a heart of gold on December 22, 1937, in Mexico City, Mexico, Robert came to the United States at the age of 7. He lived in El Paso, Texas before moving to Watsonville. Robert lived a wonderful life in Watsonville for 72 years. He worked for PV Bakery for many years until he was hired by the City of Watsonville. He worked for the City of Watsonville Sanitation Department for 28 years and retired at the age of 58 as the City of Watsonville Sanitation Department Supervisor. When Robert wasn’t traveling you could find him working in his yard, tinkering in the garage, riding his bike, going for walks on the levee, and at the mall with his beloved wife. He had an amazing appetite for Mexican Food and Sweets. He loved spending time with his friends and family. Throughout Robert’s life, he held a strong devotion to the Catholic faith and lived his life praying and attending mass weekly.
Robert was a beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Uncle, and Godfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary-Ellen; children, Robert Jr., Ruben, Ralph (Ramona) and Anna (Fred). Grandchildren: Athena, Travis, Terra, Ralphie, Crystal, Kaleisha, Joshua, Jenna, and Freddy. Eight Great-Grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and Godchildren. Robert was preceded in death by his parents Agustin and Ana Maria. Siblings Agustin, Margarita, and Ramon, Son Alfred and Daughter-In-Law Jessie.
Viewing will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2023, from 5:00-9:00 p.m. with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. at Ave Maria Memorial Chapel in Watsonville. Mass will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. at Our Lady Help of Christians in Watsonville. Burial will follow next door at Valley Public Cemetery.
