Viola May Bencich passed away peacefully at her Watsonville home on October 7, 2025, just one month shy of her 101st birthday.
Viola was born on November 15, 1924, in Watsonville to her proud parents, Jasper Santoro and Bridget Tardi. She lived here most of her life and attended local schools. She met and married the love of her life, John Bencich, on January 13, 1970. Together, they ran their business "His & Her Farms" for 40 years, until her husband's passing in 2010.
Viola could always make everyone laugh, and at times, embarrass people with her funny boldness. She was happiest when she laughed with her family, friends, and even strangers. She was very talented and had an innate creativity. She was a wonderful cook and loved to serve delicious homemade meals for anyone who stopped by. The holidays were very memorable, with her beautiful displays both indoors and outside, and her helping others with their holiday décor.
She generously helped people for many years, whether it was by caring for people when they were sick, bringing food, or providing company and a good laugh. More than anything, Viola loved spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Being around children brought her genuine joy. Viola was a loving person and a great friend to many. She will be missed dearly.
Viola is survived by her daughters, Deborah Mc Reynolds and Vickie Bencich, her daughter-in-law Peggy Fiorovich, her grandchildren, Margo, Michelle, Johnny, Shadd, and her great-grandchildren, Garrett, Haley, Anthony, and Araeyah. She also leaves behind nieces and nephews, Patricia, Judith, Dennis, Bob, and her cousin, Cyndi. She was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, John Bencich, her son, Nicholas Fiorovich, her daughter, Pamela Quinnett, her parents, Jasper and Bridget, and her siblings, Syl Santora and Tony Oliva.
Private services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to any charity of your choice. Mehl's Colonial Chapel was entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
