Mary Jessie Aguirre, age 85, passed away surrounded by her children on May 1, 2025.
Mary was born on August 7, 1939, in Fort Lupton, Colorado, to her proud parents, Pedro and Estefana Mireles, of Texas, into a large and loving family. Eventually, the family traveled to California, settling on the Central Coast in Monterey County where they worked in agriculture as sharecroppers. Mary would follow in her family's footsteps, working hard as a strawberry sharecropper for over 20 years, all while raising her eight children.
Mary is survived by her loving children, Yolanda, Yvonne, Linda, Rosemary, Ike, Dennis, Michael, and Isaac Valdivia, as well as her siblings, Lily, Delores, Margie, Arnold, Domingo, Henry, Frank, Jesse, Tommy, 24 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her life partner, Jack Hoover.
She was preceded in death by her parents Pedro and Estefana Mireles, and her siblings, Bobby, Peter, Fannie, Eva, and Emily. Mary was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She loved spending time with her beloved family and will be dearly missed.
A memorial will be held at Our Lady of The Assumption Catholic Church – 100 Salinas Road in Royal Oaks on Friday, May 23, 2025 at 11:00 am. A reception will follow at the VFW Hall – 58 Monterey Street in San Juan Bautista.
