Sandra Evelyn Mannisto passed away peacefully in Hospice at 84 years old in
Muskego, Wisconsin.
Sandra Mannisto was born in Newberry, Michigan – daughter of Ethel Newberg and
stepfather Kon Wipp. She grew up in Grand Marais, Michigan. She married William
“Bill” Mannisto in 1957 in L’Anse, Michigan. They lived in Hancock, Michigan until 1969
and then moved to South Range, Michigan and raised their family there. They had
three children, one daughter and two boys: Marilisa, Mark, and Michael. They lived in
the upper peninsula (or “U-P” as they called it) of Michigan their whole life up until their
decision to move into memory care at Heritage Senior Living in Muskego, Wisconsin.
Sandra raised her children and also babysat other children, as she loved kids. Sandra
found joy in cooking, as she was always in the kitchen making something, known in the
family for her fried chicken and spaghetti – but her specialty was “pasties” a local
Michigan dish. Sandra had a deep love and appreciation for children and served to
take care and provide for them in whatever manner she was able, both in her work and
personal life. Sandra worked with children at the Copper Country Intermediate School
District (CCISD) and was a substitute preschool aid. Sandra was also very active in her
local church, Grace Lutheran in South Range, Michigan. She sang in the choir, taught
Sunday school, and also taught children’s choir.
Sandra is predeceased by her mother and stepfather; Ethel and Kon Wipp; her father
Roy Hill, and her brother Daniel Hill. She is survived by her husband Bill and their three
children; Marilisa, Mark, and Michael; her stepsister Tiiu Vaas, niece Rene (Mark)
Young, many cousins, relatives, and dear friends. Sandra is also survived by a total of 5
grandchildren – Anna; daughter of Marilisa and Scott; Nicholas and Jacob; sons of
Michael and Michele; and the fraternal twins of Mark and Karen, Samantha and
Stephanee. Stephanee is married to Jack Albert. Samantha is married to Matt Navins
and they are expecting a child, Sandra’s first great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Saturday June 17, 2023, along with a service for her husband at Grace Lutheran Church of South Range.  Burial will be in Mt. View Cemetery of South Range.   Friends may call on Saturday June 17, 2023, from 10 am until time of services  at the church.   In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America
