Trae Steiner

John "Trae" Steiner, 63, of Shelby, passed away on August 22, 2023 surrounded by loved ones at Peace Hospice in Great Falls after a life long battle with chronic illnesses. He was born on August 26, 1959, in Chelan, WA, to the late John W. Steiner and Shirley (Jim) Midboe.
John, known to his loved ones and friends as Trae, was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was an exceptional individual with a passion for machining. He spent countless hours in his garage, skillfully crafting custom parts for engines, vehicles, and oil field equipment. Trae's vast knowledge of the universe and solar systems was unmatched, and he enjoyed sharing random fun facts with anyone who would listen. He had an impressive vinyl collection and would frequently play the record player as loud as possible, which could be heard from a block away. Trae will be remembered for his kind and generous heart, always lending a helping hand when needed. He was also a witty man, always wanting to bring joy and laughter to others.
Trae is survived by his children, Taylor Steiner, Trevor (Rayanna) Steiner, Jessica Steiner, and his stepchildren, Amber Massey and Greg Massey. He was a loving grandfather to Amira, Devin, and Conner. Trae is survived by his siblings, Tana, Cynthia, and Brian and well as his many nephews and nieces.
In his career, Trae worked as a BNSF railway worker, dedicating his time and expertise to the railway industry. Additionally, he was the proud owner and operator of his private machine shop, where he pursued his passion for machining.
As per Trae's wishes, a celebration of life will be held at a later date for family and friends to honor his memory.
Trae's absence leaves a void in the lives of those who knew him, but his legacy of kindness, generosity, and wit will be cherished forever. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
