Virgil "Tommy" Thomas Wilson, 89, of Taylorsville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at his home on September 23, 2024. Born on December 22, 1934, in Goshen, Kentucky, Tommy was a passionate car enthusiast and skilled body man, who dedicated over 30 years to Moorhead Chevrolet in Crestwood. Tommy also ventured out on his own as the owner of Tommy’s Body Shop for over 30 years. He was the proud founder of Wilson Racing, where he built race cars and shared his love for the sport.
A 1952 graduate of La Grange High School, Tommy was known for his hard work, infectious sense of fun, and his ability to make friends wherever he went. Whether at a flea market or on a boat, he had a knack for running into someone he knew, leaving a trail of smiles in his wake.
Tommy cherished his time outdoors, often found boating on Nolin Lake or Green River, where he created lasting memories with family and friends on his many houseboats. His love for music, particularly country tunes from Alan Jackson and Little Big Town’s “Pontoon,” filled the air as he spent countless hours entertaining his houseboat family. Tommy cherished celebrating many birthdays at Hooters, surrounded by laughter and good company.
A devoted husband and father, Tommy was also an avid collector of metal toys and refurbished old tractors, showcasing his creative spirit. He shared a special bond with many animals, especially his beloved dog, Lady, who was his constant companion.
Tommy's warm-hearted nature and zest for life touched everyone around him. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Tommy is preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Ida Catherine Thomas Oldham.
Left to cherish his memory, Tommy is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Paula Wilburn Wilson; 4 children, Joyce W. Stakelbeck (Huett Tipton), Debbie L. Wilson, Brian K. Foster, and Lori A. Seabolt; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 2 siblings, Geneva Pierce, and Arnold Oldham (Connie); several nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family and close friends.
